Opera and Ballet Theatre

Opera and ballet theatre, TbilisiIn the main avenue of Tbilisi, in Rustaveli street there is unusual for the Georgian architecture of a high building built in the Moorish style. There had long been acting Opera and Ballet Theatre Z. Paliashvili. Its facade with arches and turrets is decorated with beautiful stained glass windows and intricate ornaments.
It is noteworthy that since the mid of XX century the theater was located in a more beautiful building. A French writer Alexandre Dumas Sr., visited it and wrote, "Tiflis Opera and Ballet Theater is not inferior to the best theaters of Europe." But in 1874 the theater burned down along with all the props. And in 1896, after twenty years of interruption, a theater resumed its activities in its current building.
The renowned composer P.I. Tchaikovsky wrote, "here are my works are performed a lot more and better than anywhere else." And an operatic singer Fyodor Chaliapin, received here his first vocal lessons, saying: “I was born two times: for life - in Kazan, for music - in Tbilisi”.
Today, the theater continues its work, presented to the public both classical and Georgian opera. And also successfully combines classical and national choreography.
